ALABAMA POWER COMPANY: Alabama Power, partners and community leaders unveil first Smart Neighborhood

Alabama Power Company issued the following announcement on May 7.

What: Alabama Power and partners will celebrate the success of the first Smart Neighborhood™ with community leaders tomorrow with an Open House and Microgrid Tour.

Media is invited to attend a short program at the project’s cutting-edge microgrid facility, located near the Smart Neighborhood at Reynolds Landing in Hoover. The event will officially unveil the microgrid, the first in the Southeast to support an entire residential community, and include interview opportunities with project experts and partner representatives. Among those participating:

  • John Hudson, Alabama Power senior vice president of Marketing and Business Development
  • Daniel Simmons, U.S. Department of Energy principal deputy assistant secretary of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy
  • Dwight Sandlin, Signature Homes CEO
  • Frank Brocato, mayor of Hoover

Media also is invited to tour Alabama Power’s Smart Neighborhood Idea House before the program to see the advanced products, efficient equipment and enhanced building features of homes in the community.

When: Tuesday, May 8, 1:30 p.m. Media is encouraged to arrive around 1 p.m. to shuttle to the microgrid and set up.

Before the program, the Idea House will be open from 12 to 1 p.m. for interested media. Shuttles can transport media to the microgrid from the Idea House.  

Where: Media should park at Ross Bridge Town Center – 3545 Market Street, Birmingham, Ala. 35226. Shuttles will transport media to the Idea House and microgrid for the program and tour.
