Southern Company announced that it has entered into agreements to sell Gulf Power Company, Florida City Gas and the entities holding Southern Power's interests in Plant Oleander and Plant Stanton to NextEra Energy for an aggregate purchase price of approximately $6.475 billion. U.S. ENERGY INFORMATION ADMINISTRATION: Countries in and around the Middle East are adding coal-fired power plants

Planned coal-fired capacity additions from a number of countries in and around the Middle East will add 41 gigawatts (GW) of new electric generating capacity over the next decade, based on announced projects and projects currently in the permitting process. NUCLEAR REGULATORY COMMISSION: NRC to Hold Additional Public Meetings in New Mexico on Holtec’s Proposed Spent Nuclear Fuel Storage Facility

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission has announced two additional public meetings to be held in New Mexico to seek public comment on the scope of the agency’s environmental review of Holtec International’s application to build a spent nuclear fuel storage facility in the southeastern part of the state.
