Exelon will hold an open house tonight on current operations at its Braidwood nuclear plant near Braidwood, Illinois.
The event will be held 4-7 p.m. at Exelon’s Services and Training Center, 36400 S. Essex Road, in Wilmington, Illinois.
Representatives from the plant, including its resident inspectors, will be on hand to answer questions about how the plant operates, what safety measures are in place and what would be the course of action in the event of an emergency malfunction. Promotional materials on the benefits of nuclear generation and the Nuclear Powers Illinois campaign also will be available.
This event also will feature a tour of the control-room simulator, and attendees will be treated to an ice cream social.
The Braidwood plant can generate approximately 2,400 megawatts of electricity, which can power approximately 2 million typical U.S. households.
The Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) recently extended the licenses on Braidwood's two nuclear reactors through 2046 and 2047.
