The Nuclear Energy Institute (NEI) recently released six efficiency bulletins that describe actions nuclear power plant operators can take to increase operational effectiveness and boost safety measures as part of its Delivering the Nuclear Promise initiative.

The bulletins follow four that were released in February and cover topics such as training, security, engineering and corrective-action programs. They build on efforts throughout the nuclear industry to improve efficiency.

For example, Dominion Generation recently implemented two measures outlined in the first four bulletins at Connecticut’s Millstone Power Station and Virginia’s North Anna and Surry power stations. The measures involve radiation-protection procedures.

Through its initiative NEI has 12 teams looking for more ways to increase efficiency, and the institute plans to issue dozens of bulletins over the next two years.
