The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) will meet with the Connecticut Nuclear Energy Advisory Council (NEAC) on Tuesday in Waterford regarding the annual assessment of the Millstone nuclear plant.
The public meeting is set to begin at 7 p.m. at Waterford Hall, 15 Rope Ferry Road. NRC officials will take questions and listen to comments from attendees after the meeting.
The assessment consisted of a review of the safety performance at the plant during 2015 and is based on reviews that were carried out by NRC staff over the course of the year. The NRC said the plant’s reviews indicate there were no safety concerns reported and that overall, its operational practices were sound, the reviews said.
Based on the reviews, the plant will remain under normal levels of NRC oversight; approximately 9,075 hours of review time were logged, covering both reactors at the plant.
“Our annual assessments allow us to step back at regular intervals and size up plant performance. However, we view oversight of each facility as an ongoing responsibility,” NRC Region I Administrator Dan Dorman said. “In the case of Millstone, the plant’s current performance qualifies for our normal level of oversight.”
