Representatives from Rusatom Overseas and Bulgaria’s Kozloduy Nuclear Power Plant recently met at the plant to discuss an assessment and evaluation project Rusatom is taking on for the power plant’s Unit 5 reactor.
The Russian company, under the deal, will assess the unit’s metal condition monitoring programs and evaluate secondary circuit equipment, which includes structures, systems and components. This work is part of the second stage of a project looking to extend the life of Unit 5.
The recent meeting included introducing the various teams that will be working on the project, including specialists from Kozloduy NPP, a project team from Rusatom Overseas and a team from Saint Petersburg’s NPO CKTI, which was brought in to consult on the project. The NOP CKTI team will work on a safety analysis and computing, as well as generate quantitative estimates for the residual lifetimes of the unit’s various structures, systems and components.
The meeting also allowed the organizations to discuss the working routine for the project and upcoming preventive maintenance scheduled to take place later this year. Meeting participants prepared key operations on the agenda, including the evaluation of turbines, the main condensate system and the unit’s moisture separator-reheaters.
