The European Commission has greenlighted a proposed partnership between EDF and China General Nuclear (CGN), indicating a policy that supports new nuclear projects in the U.K.
The decision is seen as a constructive step for EDF's proposed Hinkley Point C nuclear plant project in Somerset, England.
EDF said it expects to make a final investment decision Hinkley Point C soon. The British and French governments have been supportive of the project, which EDF said would produce 7 percent of the U.K.'s electricity needs.
EDF said the U.K. stands to benefit from renewed nuclear power plant construction and the jobs that such projects would generate.
