The Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) held an open house in Rock Hill, South Carolina, on Wednesday on the 2015 performance review of the Catawba nuclear power plant near York, South Carolina.
“These annual meetings offer an opportunity for everyone, and especially people who live near the plant, to learn about our inspection and oversight programs.”
NRC Region II Administrator Cathy Haney said.
The NRC recently sent a letter to officials at the Catawba plant, operated by Duke Energy, detailing its assessment of the facility’s operations throughout 2015. The plant’s two reactors received green ratings in all of its performance indicators last year, which is the NRC’s best safety rating. This means that throughout 2016, the plant will continue to operate under the standard NRC oversight.
The open house featured the Catabwa plant’s NRC resident inspectors and other NRC staff members.
