AREVA NP replaces coolant pumps at Surry Power Station

AREVA NP recently refurbished the reactor coolant pumps at Surry Power Station in southeastern Virginia in a project that required component manufacturing in addition to reactor coolant-pump maintenance.

AREVA's Lynchburg, Virginia, and Jeumont, France, teams were tasked with fabricating new turning-vane bolts. The company salvaged two pumps from Wisconsin’s closed Kewaunee Power Station, renovating and pairing them with two others.

“In addition to offering utilities competitive solutions, ensuring equipment reliability is important for the safe, long-term operations of nuclear power plants,” AREVA Installed Base Services Senior Vice President George Beam said. “Through the refurbishment and delivery of these reactor coolant pumps, we helped fulfill Dominion’s commitment to high-performance standards and continued safe operations at Surry.”
