NRC to host meeting on FOIA, agency's efforts to inform public

The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission said this week that it will hold a public meeting to discuss the agency’s Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) program and its ongoing efforts to keep the public informed, 1-3 p.m. Wednesday, March 23, at the NRC's Two White Flint North Auditorium, 11545 Rockville Pike, in Rockville, Maryland.

The NRC said the meeting also will provide information on the role of the Office of Government Information Service (OGIS) and the agency’s plans for proactive disclosures.

The FOIA grants the public access to government records and intends to facilitate government transparency. During the meeting, NRC will provide details on the agency's own transparency efforts, including matters of process and technology. The public can ask questions and voice concerns during the meeting.

Besides the NRC and OGIS, representatives from the National Archives and Records Administration also will make a presentation.

A teleconference can be accessed at 1-800-369-1849, passcode 1289807.
