AREVA NP said this week that it has supplied two spent fuel pool level instrumentation systems (SFPLI) to nuclear reactors in Taiwan.
“AREVA is continually working with customers to understand their needs and identify cost-effective solutions to improve safety and reliability for nuclear plant operations,” George Beam, AREVA senior vice president for installed base services, said.
This system will allow operators at the Taiwan Power Corp.’s Chinshan Nuclear Power Plant to monitor spent fuel pools at the facility and notice when additional water is needed to maintain regulatory requirements set by the country’s nuclear safety authority. This system also has been installed in many nuclear plants in the U.S. and Spain.
The company said the system utilizes microwave radiation pulses that water within the sample would reflect back to the system. The antenna that receives the reflected signal can determine the water’s depth by how long the signal takes to be reflected back.
