NRC names new resident inspector for Oconee Nuclear Station

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) said it recently selected Jason Parent as a new resident inspector for Duke Energy’s Oconee Nuclear Station, near Seneca, South Carolina.

Parent will help oversee the facility’s operations, along with

Senior Resident Inspector Eddy Crowe and Resident Inspector Natasha Childs.

Resident inspectors conduct inspections, monitor work projects and interact with those working in plants and the communities around them. Parent can serve a term of no more than seven years at the Oconee station.

“Jason Parent has the experience and dedication to help ensure the Oconee plant is operated according to NRC regulations and in a way that protects people and the environment,” NRC Region II Administrator Cathy Haney said.

Before this appointment, Parent was serving as acting resident inspector at Catawba Nuclear Station and Robinson Nuclear Plant, both also in South Carolina.

Parent earned a degree in aeronautical and mechanical engineering at New York’s Clarkson University and worked at the U.S. Navy's Norfolk Naval Shipyard before joining the NRC. Parent has gone through the NRC's Resident Inspector Development Program to become qualified as a reactor operations inspector.
