Charles W. “Wick” Moorman, the former Norfolk Southern Corp. CEO and executive chairman, was named to Duke Energy's board this week.

Moorman earned his degrees from Georgia Tech and Harvard Business School.

In 1970, Moorman began his career at Norfolk Southern, working in a wide range of leadership positions, from human resources and labor relations to strategic planning and information technology.

Now Moorman will be part of the nuclear oversight committee on the Duke board. Moorman also serves on the Medical College Operating Board at the University of Virginia, the Georgia Tech Foundation board, the Virginia chapter of the Nature Conservancy, and the Chevron Corp. board.

"Wick Moorman led one of America's largest and most important railroad businesses," Lynn Good, Duke Energy's CEO, president and chairman, said. "His experience and strategic insights will be invaluable in helping us deliver results for our customers, shareholders and communities."

Duke Energy is one of the biggest electric power holding companies in the U.S., using utility operations to provide an estimated 7.3 million customers throughout six states with electricity in the Southeast and Midwest.
