Uranium producer Energy Fuels Inc. said late last week that progress has been made with the Nichols Ranch in situ recovery (ISR) mining project in Wyoming.
Key milestones reached include production targets. In certain areas, the company has confirmed higher levels of uranium resources than previously anticipated. In November, the sixth header-house began operations, and the company said it has produced higher uranium ore than expected.
“Nichols Ranch continues to meet – and exceed – the high expectations we had when we acquired the project in June 2015,” Energy Fuels CEO and President Stephen Anthony said. “Nichols Ranch is proving itself to be a reliable and scalable long-term U.S. uranium production center which has large areas of high-grade uranium resources that can be produced at an attractive cost."
The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) granted the company final authorization to construct an elution circuit, which has been built at the site. With this authorization, the company can complete ISR processing on-site and also is expected to lower anticipated costs associated with operations.
Two additional header-houses are scheduled to be operational by July.
