Optimized resource-management company Veolia has agreed to acquire California-based nuclear-waste cleanup and plant-decommissioning firm Kurion, Veolia said this week.
Kurion played a key role in stabilizing the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Plant with its specialized cleanup technology.
French firm Veolia said that with the addition of Kurion, it will bolster its strategic offerings in the cleanup sector of the nuclear generation industry. It also said combined with its experience in managing and assessing nuclear facilities the company will be able to provide more comprehensive services.
"By having all the expertise and solutions that are indispensable for the treatment of this type of waste, our company is confirming that it is what it has always been: a pioneer in the treatment and recovery of waste and resources," Veolia Chairman and CEO Antoine Frérot said.
Kurion also sees its own benefits from this acquisition.
"With Veolia, Kurion has found the perfect partner to accelerate our growth trajectory while expanding our markets and commercial offerings,” Kurion CEO William Gallo said. “The combination of the two companies establishes a major force in the nuclear restoration market."
