The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) named Donald Krause a resident inspector at Monticello Nuclear Generating Plant, owned by Xcel Energy, in Monticello, Minnesota, this week.

The NRC selects a minimum of two resident inspectors at all nuclear facilities that operate in a commercial fashion. Krause will serve alongside Senior Resident Inspector Paul Zurawski at the Monticello facility.

Krause began his work with the NRC in 2014, serving as a reactor engineer. Krause served in the U.S. Navy and graduated from the Navy’s Nuclear Power Program. Prior to working with the NRC, Krause worked as a radiation safety officer for a General Electric Hitachi site.

“Donald Krause’s experience, training and commitment to safety will help the NRC fulfill its mission of protecting people and the environment by ensuring the Monticello plant meets the high standards set by the NRC,” Region III Administrator Cynthia Pederson said.

Krause earned a bachelor’s degree from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University and a master’s in engineering from the University of Virginia.
