IAEA highlights achievements in 2015 'Year in Review' article

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) issued a year-end review of its activities throughout 2015 on its website late last week.

Included within the report was the agreement reached between the organization and Iran, involving adjustments to and oversight of the nation's nuclear program. The report said this agreement facilitates the resolution of any outstanding issues remaining between the Iranian government and IAEA. The final phase was completed in December, when IAEA issued a final report.

This process occurred in the same time frame as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action between the international community and Iran over its nuclear program.

The IAEA also highlighted its work with sustainability development and climate-change efforts, especially during the Climate Change Conference in Paris last month, as it helped establish nuclear power's role in this arena. The IAEA also was present during the development of the U.N.’s 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

Near the close of 2015, the IAEA received official recognition through a resolution from the U.N. The resolution indicates that the IAEA played an important role in facilitating the practical application of nuclear science and power.
