Nur Bekri, head of China's National Energy Administration of China Head, said this week that nuclear reactors currently under construction in China will add over 32 million kilowatts of electricity to the nation's generating capacity.
Bekri also said approximately 8.2 million kilowatts were brought into operation in 2015 and that an additional 8.8 million kilowatts were approved for construction.
The Non-Aligned Movement News Network (NNN) said China is taking on this expansion to reduce pollution from coal-based electricity generators.
The nation has a total of approximately 25.5 million kilowatts of operating nuclear-generation capacity.
The World Nuclear Association said China plans to extend its capacity to 58 million kilowatts by 2020 and 150 million by 2030.
China plans to have 58 million kilowatts of nuclear-generated electricity by 2020
