WesDyne Sweden AB, a subsidiary of Westinghouse Electric Co., has been hired to develop inspection techniques and equipment for core-shroud support at Oskarshamn Nuclear Power Plant's Unit 3 reactor in Taby, Sweden, WesDyne said late last week.
“This contract award is a confirmation of the extensive trust the customer puts in our continued ability to deliver state-of-the-art solutions to mechanically and technically challenging work while meeting an aggressive schedule with safely delivered, high-quality services,” WesDyne President Johan Danielsson said.
Through this contract, the company will develop ultrasonic and eddy current methods to evaluate Inconel 182 welds, and the company will also engineer manipulators to be able to inspect certain components of the reactor’s core.
The company specializes in developing and supplying examination products that are remote, mechanized and non-destructive, with a special focus on the needs of the nuclear industry.
"We are pleased to continue cooperation with Westinghouse and WesDyne on complex and fascinating development projects. In this case, they presented us with the best technical solution to our upcoming task," Åke Jonsson, inspection coordinator at Oskarshamn NPP, said.
The Oskarshamn plant has a generating capacity of approximately 2,600 megawatts of electricity.
