AREVA Inc. said on Tuesday that it is offering a matching donation to Vector Space, an educational nonprofit organization in Lynchburg, Virginia.
The company said that once $10,000 has been raised through community donations, the company will match that amount.
“We are grateful for AREVA’s support and recognition of Vector Space as a valuable regional resource for collaboration and creativity among learners of all ages and backgrounds,” Elise Spontarelli, executive director of Vector Space, said. “This donation will help us open a space of our own and expand our programming in early 2016.”
The organization is focused on providing community space that allows individuals to learn about science, technology, engineering, art and mathematics through hands-on projects. AREVA is among many employers in the area granting support to Vector Space. The organization is also involved in developing events for schools and youth programs.
“Our employees are driven by a commitment to lifelong learning and a culture of excellence,” Gary Mignogna, president and CEO of AREVA, said “Supporting local educational initiatives like Vector Space enables us to share that culture and strengthen technical skills related to science, technology, engineering and math in our communities. This is the future of our workforce and a driving economic force for our community.”
AREVA supports nonprofit groups in the 30-plus U.S. communities where it operates. In 2014, AREVA and its workers donated over 3,000 volunteer hours and over $1.8 million
to charities and educational groups.
