The North American subsidiary of AREVA said on Tuesday that it was awarded approximately $11 million in cybersecurity contracts to protect several U.S. utilities.
AREVA NP will be carrying out security work for the cyber-security systems involving approximately 5,000 digital assets, as well as making improvements in programming infrastructure to boost cyber-security measures.
“Protecting nuclear energy infrastructure is an industry-wide priority,” Lee Williams, senior vice president of Installed Base Projects at AREVA, said. “Our expertise in cyber security, nuclear plant engineering and regulatory affairs ensures a high level of protection of the digital systems for our American and international customers.' ”
The contracts are associated with several utilities that are operating in the U.S. The company said its cyber-security services are designed so that security measures fall in line with industry guidance, regulations and utility planning.
The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission requires that nuclear plants have cybersecurity measures, in addition to physical security measures, to facilitate safe operation of a nuclear plant and to protect a facility from an attack.
AREVA is an international company based in France that specializes in numerous areas of the nuclear power generation industry. The company’s services include reactor and component design, manufacturing, nuclear-site management and support, and services in the decommissioning of nuclear facilities.
