NRC appoints new senior resident inspector at Indian Point plant

The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) has appointed Brian Haagensen to serve as Indian Point nuclear power plant’s new senior resident inspector in Buchanan, New York.

Prior to this appointment, Haagensen served as a resident inspector at the Millstone Station in Waterford, Conn. Haagensen joined the NRC in 2005 as a reactor inspector and license examiner for the Region I Office.

“Brian Haagensen has the experience and commitment to safety that will help the NRC in carrying out its mission of protecting people and the environment, and ensuring the safe operation of the Indian Point units,” NRC Region I Administrator Dan Dorman said.

Prior to his NRC work, Haagensen served as a senior vice president at defense contractor Sonalysts in Waterford and in other leadership positions within the private nuclear industry, where he worked for 22 years.

Haagensen also served for 30 years in the U.S. Navy and Naval Reserves. Haagensen earned a bachelor’s degree in physics from the U.S. Naval Academy and a master’s degree in physics from the U.S. Naval Postgraduate School.

All commercial nuclear plants in the U.S. are assigned at least two NRC resident inspectors. Haagensen joins resident inspectors Sarah Rich and Garrett Newman.
