Bruce Power, GE Hitachi enter exploratory collaboration agreement

GE Hitachi Nuclear Energy Canada (GEH-C) and Bruce Power announced on Tuesday that they have entered into an agreement to explore collaborative opportunities between the two companies.

According to the announcement, the partnership would likely be focused on innovative endeavors and efforts to enhance performance at nuclear facilities. GEH-C has nuclear plants in Toronto, Arnprior and Peterborough.

Both companies have reported success in previous cooperative projects which includes the development of the Bruce Reactor Inspection and Maintenance System (BRIMS).

“A strong role for clean, affordable, reliable nuclear power will help sustain a highly-trained workforce and a robust, diversified economy, which is important to communities across Ontario,” Mark Ward, president and CEO of GEH-C, said. “We’re proud to be a long-term, strategic supplier to Bruce Power and we look forward to continuing our relationship for many years to come by embracing innovation.”

Within the memorandum of understanding, many areas of focus where agreed upon which aims to improve overall operations of Bruce Power and its outage programs.

“We look forward to building on our relationship with GEH-C as both organizations place tremendous value on innovation, and it is through this approach, we will continue to be an important source of Ontario’s electricity supporting the broader economy, including here in Peterborough,” Duncan Hawthorne, president and CEO of Bruce Power, said.
