Spectra awarded DOE contract

The Department of Energy (DOE) recently announced that they have awarded the procurement contract for U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) facilities to Spectra Tech, Inc. 

This contract is valued at approximately $31.6 million and will last for a period of four years with the potential for a year-long extension. Under this contract Spectra will be tasked with the management and operation of three NRC associated facilities: the Fort Saint Vrain Independent Spent Fuel Storage Installation (FSV ISFSI) in Colorado; the Idaho Spent Fuel Facility (ISFF) license, and the Three Mile Island-2 ISFSI facility, located at the Idaho Nuclear Technology and Engineering Center.

This contract acts as a part of the department’s Environmental Management program and ensures the safe cleaning and decontamination of nuclear energy and weapons research sites.

Spectra will be taking responsibility over several aspects of each site including physical security measures, infrastructure, utility and communication services management, operational services and maintenance of essential programs. They will also be managing safety and emergency management systems and operations, quality assurance and protection against radiation.

Training and property management will also fall under the responsibility of Spectra.
