The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) announced on Wednesday that Pauline Braxton will serve as a resident inspector for the construction site at the Vogtle Nuclear Power Plant in Waynesboro, Georgia.
“Pauline Braxton has the background and dedication to help ensure construction is completed according to NRC regulations, and in a way that will protect people and the environment,” Deputy Regional Administrator for Construction Laura Dudes said.
Braxton has worked within the NRC’s Nuclear Safety Professional Development Program and has qualified as a regional inspector for Atlanta. In this role, she took on inspections that consisted of cybersecurity, digital instrumentation and fire protection.
Braxton previously served within General Electric’s Power Division prior to joining the NRC. She holds a bachelor’s and master’s degree in electrical engineering from N.C. A&T State University at Greensboro.
All commercial nuclear power plants are assigned a minimum of two resident inspectors from the NRC. These individuals act as the inspection and evaluation personnel and serve as a liaison between the facility, the general public and the NRC. Construction sites also have NRC resident inspectors assigned based on the scope of the project.
Braxton will serve alongside Senior Resident Inspector Justin Fuller and resident inspectors Coleman Abbott and Sarah Temple.
The construction includes building two nuclear reactor units.
