NRC shuffles senior personnel to streamline management

The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) said this week that it is planning senior personnel changes that aim to streamline the management of the NRC and to diversify its leadership.

Among new appointments are Mike Weber, who will serve as the director of nuclear regulatory research; Catherine Haney, who will serve as director of nuclear materials safety and safegaurds; and Jennifer Uhle, who will serve as director of the Office of New Reactors.

“Our agency faces the challenge of reducing our size, becoming more efficient and delivering more value for the money,” NRC Chairman Stephen Burns said. “The steps announced today will put in place a management structure well-suited to ensuring we accomplish our mission of protecting people and the environment, even as we reduce our size and budget.”

The NRC will announce further leadership changes as they are made, as positions made vacant by these appointments are filled.
