FirstEnergy Corp. announced Wednesday that it has completed upgrade projects at the Liberty Center Substation in the Toledo Edison service area
of northwest Ohio.
"This work is important to helping us maintain safe and reliable service for our customers, although these substation projects aren't always visible to the public,"
Toledo Edison Regional President Rich Sweeney said. "Day-to-day, these are the types of projects we invest in to help ensure Toledo Edison remains one of the most reliable utilities in Ohio."
Among these projects was the replacement of two large transformers and capacitor banks, which maintain appropriate voltage levels at the center. Electrical controls were also updated and new circuit breakers were installed at a total cost of approximately $7.5 million to complete. The company said these upgrades will improve its reliability to industrial and residential customers in the service area, which consists of parts of Fulton, Lucas, Wood and Henry counties.
Toledo Edison serves approximately 300,000 customers. The state's Public Utility Commission states that Toledo Edison has been successful in maintaining above-average ratings in reliability and in their performance during a disruption of services.
