NuGen, Sellafield and NDA formalize cooperative agreement

NUGen, Sellafield Ltd., and the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA) recently announced a cooperative agreement to formalize temporary arrangements between the three entities, providing a more permanent commitment to collaboration.

“This agreement formalizes the way we have been working together for a number of years," NuGen Director of Corporate Affairs Gary Shuttleworth said. "It establishes a structure for open and timely dialogue and encourages regular engagement to support each other to deliver our goals."

This agreement coincides with a land deal confirming the Moorside Site is capable of housing three nuclear reactors. Both companies will be tasked with ensuring that the Sellafield and Moorside sites are operating safely and within NDA regulatory requirements.

“We are delighted to sign the co-operation agreement with NuGen and the NDA," Sellafield Director of Stakeholder Relations Rory O'Neill said. "Nuclear safety is the No. 1 priority for all of us and this agreement will ensure the decommissioning of the Sellafield site and the development of Moorside will continue to move forward with the highest standards of radiological safety, conventional health and safety, and protection of the environment as possible.”
