The Fuel Refabrication Facility in Richland, Washington, owned by AREVA Inc., received high marks in a recent review done by the U.S. Customs and Border Protection Agency, the company announced Wednesday.
The agency found no issues relating to security and that all components and fuel assemblies at the plant were reported and documented in compliance with Foreign Trade Zone requirements.
“We are committed to the safe and secure operation of our facility here in Richland,” Ron Land, senior vice president of AREVA’s fuel business unit for the U.S., said “This positive review is a testament to our focus on the improved process and performance of our supply chain given the global nature of our products and our customers.”
With these results, the company is able to continue its work in optimization activity relating to the supply chain of nuclear components and materials for the industry. The facility is licensed by the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission and the state of Washington.
The facility provides fuel products and other associated components for commercial pressurized water reactors and boiling water reactors operating in the western portion of the U.S. According to the company, the facility supplies materials responsible for generating 5 percent of total U.S. electricity generation.
