Georgia Power has received unanimous approval from the Georgia Public Service Commission (PSC) concerning costs associated with the construction of the expansion of the Vogtle Electric Generating Plant, the company announced on Tuesday.
This was achieved within the 12th Vogtle Construction Monitoring Report, which indicated approximately $169 million in capital and construction costs. The expansion of the plant involves the construction of two nuclear reactor units that will join the two plants that are currently operating at the site just outside of Waynesboro.
Within this report, the company also informed PSC members of milestones that have been achieved in the construction of the plant. Reports are submitted to the PSC board every six months and this report indicates capital and costs up until Dec. 31 of this past year. Since the project's inception, capital investments have reached approximately $2.96 billion.
Recently, the company reported that earlier in August the Vogtle Unit 3 had its CA01 module installed, which has been the heaviest lift operation at the site. Prior to that the containment vessel and structural wall module CA05 has also been installed at Unit 3.
The two nuclear generators have an estimated generation capacity rated at 1,100 megawatts of electricity.
