The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) announced Monday that Fabian Thomas has been selected as the Wolf Creek Nuclear Generating Station's resident inspector.
Thomas has worked within Region IV of the NRC since 2013. He initially served as a project engineer within the Resident Inspector Development Program. Prior to working with the NRC, he worked in the U.S. Department of Energy within its National Nuclear Security Administration. In this role, Thomas was tasked with overseeing upgrade projects for infrastructure and facilities.
Thomas earned a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from Southern University in Baton Rouge and a master's degree in business administration from Our Lady of the Lake University at San Antonio.
"Fabian Thomas’ experience, training and commitment to safety will help the NRC in its mission to protect people and the environment by ensuring the safe operation of Wolf Creek,” NRC Region IV Administrator Marc Dapas said.
Each commercial nuclear power plant in the U.S. has at least two resident inspectors assigned to it within the NRC. Resident inspectors act as main contacts between the facility and the NRC and they are
responsible for all activity relating to inspection, evaluation and monitoring work projects at their assigned site.
The NRC also announced that Doug Dodson will serve as the facility's senior resident inspector. The Wolf Creek plant is in Burlington, Kansas.
