The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) and the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) will host a workshop on non-light water reactor technologies Sept. 1-2 in Bethesda, Maryland.
Officials from both the NRC and DOE will discuss the potential challenges of information gaps and the country's needs for energy with regard to this kind of reactor technology. They will also spend time to ensure that common knowledge is attained among participants and discuss existing nuclear regulations and policy.
The workshop will begin at 8:30 a.m. at the Bethesda North Marriott Hotel and Conference Center on Marinelli Road and is open to the public. Reactor design vendors, utility representatives, federal agencies and public interest groups will also be in attendance.
This workshop will feature both formal presentations and structured open discussions facilitated by NRC or DOE staff. The NRC expects later workshops will build on what happens at this two-day workshop to offer opportunities for key stakeholders and members of the community to work together to formulate energy solutions.
