Luminant on Thursday marked the Comanche Peak Nuclear Power Plant's 25th anniversary of electricity generation operations.
The plant is approximately 45 miles
southwest
of Fort Worth and has provided approximately $1 billion to its neighboring communities through taxes and other expenditures in the area. Approximately 1,300 people are employed by the plant.
"For 25 years, the people who work at Comanche Peak have carried through on their commitment to the people of Texas to provide reliable, clean power while keeping safety as the highest priority,"
Luminant CEO Mac McFarland said. "Their standard of excellence is what has made Comanche Peak one of the best nuclear plants in the country."
The nuclear plant has a capacity of 2,300 megawatts between its two nuclear reactors and is able to power approximately 1.115 million homes. The company states that the plant has produced an approximate 422 million megawatt-hours over the course of its operation.
"Looking back, the number of people who have played a role in the success of our plant is mind-boggling – from those who designed it up to everyone who is here today. All along the way, it's been the quality of our people who have made the difference," the company's chief nuclear officer Rafael Flores said.
