Sandia National Labs announced on Thursday that it has been selected by the U.S. Department of Energy (DoE) to serve as a lead in a pilot program to support small companies in the clean-energy industry.
Through this program small companies that are specialized in clean-energy generation will be able to have access to national laboratories and other resources. As a part of this program, Sandia is set to receive $2.75 million in voucher funding for the collaborative research with the smaller companies.
This fall, companies that employ fewer than 500 people will be eligible to apply for up to $300,000 in vouchers from Sandia in order to facilitate assistance. There will be a competitive selection process based on the proposals that they receive. Companies that are selected will be expected to provide 20 percent of shares cost.
Sandia joins the Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) and the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) in the Tech Assist Green program.
“Sandia and Los Alamos have jointly run a highly successful New Mexico Small Business Assistance (NMSBA) program within the state,” Pete Atherton, senior manager for industry partnerships at Sandia, said. “Now we are taking the best practices from that program and applying them to the Small Business Voucher Pilot.”
