Ontario Power Generation (OPG) has named Jeffrey Lyash its new CEO and president, the Canadian Nuclear Association (CNA) said on Wednesday.
Lyash has worked within the public and private sectors in the field of nuclear power generation. Most recently, he served as president of Power for the Chicago Bridge and Iron Company. Lyash also has served as senior resident inspector with the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission and as executive vice president of Energy Supply with Duke Supply.
"Mr. Lyash’s nuclear experience will help ensure that nuclear energy remains a key component of the province’s long-term energy strategy,” CNA President and CEO John Barrett said. “We look forward to supporting him and OPG in the successful refurbishment of OPG’s reactors at the Darlington Nuclear Generating Station.”
The CNA represents the nuclear power industry in Canada and aims to facilitate a positive regulatory framework that is reasonable for companies and the country through cooperation between nuclear generation and other industries and entities.
Lyash replaces Tom Mitchell, who has served as vice chairman of the CNA. Under Mitchell, OPG was able to engineer zero carbon emissions from 99.3 percent of its generation activity.
