AREVA announced on Wednesday that they have signed a framework contract with the U.K. Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA) Shared Service Alliance.
This will allow the company to provide engineering services to sites that are in the decommission process.
“This agreement confirms our engagement to contribute to future decommissioning projects for nuclear sites other than Sellafield, where our company is already active," Senior Executive Vice President of AREVA's Back End Business Group Guillaume Dureau said. "With this new agreement, AREVA, a historic partner with the British nuclear industry, continues to expand its engineering activities in the United Kingdom.”
With this contract in place, AREVA will take part in decommissioning activity at 12 nuclear sites that are currently managed by decommissioning company, Magnox, Ltd. They will also take part in activity at the Radioactive Waste Management Limited site in Harwell and the Low-Level Waste Repository at West Cumbria.
According to the company, this agreement between AREVA and its subsidiaries and the NDA is an expression of the latter's confidence in the capability of the company to manage nuclear waste material and its engineering management quality.
The contract consists of several segments including one awarded to AREVA and its partner Atkins, which will facilitate operations relating to design and engineering services. Another involves AREVA RMC, a British subsidiary which will manage waste from decommissioned nuclear sites.
