Dominion Virginia Power announced on Wednesday that they were awarded the Southeastern Electric Exchange's (SEE) Industry Excellence Award for their work in rebuilding a 96-mile transition line.
The transmission line runs between Mount Storm in West Virginia to Doubs, Maryland, and according to the company the line plays a vital role in the delivery of electricity in Virginia, West Virginia and Maryland. The transmission line was originally constructed in 1966; after a complete rebuild, the company was able to increase its operating capacity to approximately 66 percent. They were also able to complete this project without causing harm to the area's electricity grid.
"We are proud to have received this recognition from the Southeastern Electric Exchange," Paul Koonce, CEO of Dominion's energy infrastructure group and president of Dominion Virginia Power, said. "The award reflects the hard work of our employees, our unwavering focus on safety and our commitment to excellence."
The SEE is a nonprofit organization that focuses on issues relating to investor-owned electric utility companies in the southeastern region of the U.S., as far west as parts of New Mexico and as far north as Pennsylvania. The SEE gave this award in 12 categories including excellence in management of transmission lines.
