Southern Company President and CEO Mark Lantrip announced on Monday that the company has selected Martin Davis to be an executive vice president and the company's chief information officer (CIO).

Davis will take charge of the company's innovation efforts, specifically related to development and implementation of new technology designed to provide improved customer experiences. His work will be similar to the work of the newly launched Energy Innovation Center.

"With social, mobile and cloud technologies driving a rapid evolution of our customers' expectations, Martin's vast experience in using these technologies will propel the organization forward and challenge us to push the boundaries of innovation and excellence," Lantrip said. "His ability to drive this technology excellence in highly regulated environments, which also demand a high degree of cybersecurity, makes him an excellent addition to Southern Company's leadership."

Davis sports a 30-year career in enterprise information technology and cyber security services. He has previously served as a chief technology officer at Wells Fargo and as a corporate chief information officer for Wachovia.

Davis holds a bachelor's degree in business administration from Winston-Salem State University, where he currently serves on the board of trustees; he is also a graduate of the Young Executives Institute and the Wachovia Executive Leadership Program at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
