The 23rd International Conference on Nuclear Engineering (ICONE) was held in May, with representatives from around the world in attendance at the five-day conference.
Attendees represented both government agencies -- including the U.S. Department of Energy and the Japanese Ministry of Economy -- and leading companies in the nuclear power industry including Toshiba, Westinghouse and Chinese National Nuclear Co., among many others.
The topics that speakers covered included nuclear safety and security, accident management and the lessons of the Fukushima Daiichi accident. Participants also discussed the future of nuclear power generation, fusion technology and waste management and decommissioning methodologies.
Over 700 speakers presented information on key topics of the conference, and the program included approximately 140 technical sessions.
The ICONE conference is one of the leading international conferences on nuclear power generation and their focus is tied to the technical and scientific advances of the industry alongside global policy and safety standards. This conference has been held since 1991 in cities throughout Europe, the U.S. and Asia. This year's conference took place in Makuhari Messe Convention Center in Tokyo. Previous conferences have taken place in Kyoto, Prague, Chengdu, San Francisco, Brussels and Anaheim.
The conference organizer was ÅF Group, which focuses on technical consulting for industrial and infrastructure markets.
