The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) was recognized for its efforts in meeting the federal goal to contract with small businesses with an "A" rating from the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA), the NRC announced Monday.
They appropriated approximately 35.5 percent of contractual money, totaling $245.3 million, toward small businesses. The agency goal was 31.5 percent. Government wide scores in this area also amounted the SBA awarding an "A."
“The NRC is committed to supporting the nation's small businesses, including those owned by women and veterans, and those located in historically underutilized business zones,” NRC Chairman Stephen Burns said. “Relying on small business products and services not only helps us accomplish our mission, but also supports local communities with jobs and economic development.”
Eighty percent of the scorecard is weighted toward prime contracting activity and is split into categories of overall small businesses, those owned by women, those owned by service-disabled veterans and those business located in a historically underutilized business zone. Small business contracting makes up 60 percent of the score with 10 percent of the score coming from each of the four categories of small businesses. The remaining 20 percent of the score weight is split between subcontracting of the same types of businesses and in overall success of the contracts.
