Mon Power hires Power Systems Institute graduates

Mon Power announced on Tuesday that they have hired eight students that are graduating from the Power Systems Institute (PSI) training program.

These new employees will serve either line positions or substation positions. They are a part of the second graduating class from the program in West Virginia. The program collaborates with Pierpont Community and Technical College in Fairmont.

"The Power Systems Institute program continues to produce well-trained, highly skilled employees for our workforce," Holly Kauffman, president of FirstEnergy's West Virginia operations, said. "These new employees will work shoulder-to-shoulder with our veteran linemen and substation personnel, learning from them in the field and honing their craft to help ensure reliable service for our customers, now and for years to come."

All those who completed the program earn an associate's degree in power utility technology. The PSI program was developed by Mon Power's parent company, First Energy, in 2000. Since its inception, the company and its subsidiaries have hired 289 substation personnel and 884 line employees that completed training programs available in Ohio, New Jersey, West Virginia and Pennsylvania.

Students in the program will spend half of their time completing academic work at Pierpont and the rest of the time working at the Mon Power training facility in White Hall.
