Studsvik terminates THOR joint venture involvement

Studsvik Inc. announced Wednesday that it will terminate its involvement with the THOR Treatment Technologies LLC. (TTT) joint venture.

The venture was established in 2002 and has served as an important part of the Department of Energy's (DOE) efforts in treating waste byproduct of nuclear fuel generation. According to the announcement, the TTT will continue to operate as is with other venture partners and the DOE.

“There are several significant opportunities in the DOE complex over the next 12 to 18 months,” Studsvik President Howard Stevens said. “It is imperative that Studsvik position itself in the best way to win work from these opportunities. Studsvik’s THOR technology can treat some of DOE’s most troublesome waste streams in an efficient, cost-effective and reliable manner."

Operations will also continue at the Integrated Waste Treatment Unit at the Idaho National Laboratory and will continue to maintain its role with the Idaho Clean-up Project. According to the TTT website, the venture offers treatment options for nuclear waste in liquid, solids, gases and sludge alongside water feeds and feed with extreme pH levels.
