China National Nuclear Corp. (CNNC) Assistant General Manager Li Xiaoming said Wednesday that CNNC plans to build and export nuclear reactors within the next five years.
Li said the company has plans to build reactors in Argentina and the U.K., among other countries, and that CNNC is exploring possibilities in North African, Central European and South American markets.
A China Daily report said CNNC will be cooperating with China General Nuclear Corp. in the Hinkley Point C project in the U.K.
The model of reactor that will be sent to markets abroad is the Hualong One, a leading design from CNNC. Many of the countries that would be potential clients include those not as developed and those with little development in nuclear energy. Initially roughly four to six reactors will be constructed and exported to international nuclear energy markets.
One challenge that the CNNC will face is differing laws and regulations in the different client countries. Officials from the World Nuclear Association (WNA) have stated that CNNC partnerships with international nuclear energy manufacturers and experts would ease this process.
The WNA reports that nuclear power will likely reach approximately $1.2 trillion in market value by 2030.
