International Atomic Energy Agency recommends increased safety measures at Chooz, France, nuclear plant

An International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) team of nuclear safety experts has recommended that the Chooz nuclear plant in France take further action concerning some of the safety recommendations made during a 2013 plant review.

An IAEA Operation Safety Review Team (OSART) recently completed an assessment of how the plant operator had followed up on safety recommendations made during the 2013 review and found that most had been addressed. However, the team suggested further action on other issues, recommending that temporary modifications to operational systems be processed in a more unified manner, on-the-job training material be further improved and chemistry control measures be further enhanced.

The plant management and the French Safety Authority will have an opportunity to comment on the draft recommendations, which will be reviewed by the IAEA. The final report will be submitted to the French government within three months.
