Duke Energy recently named Melody Birmingham-Byrd the company’s new president of operations in Indiana, replacing Doug Esamann.
"Melody has more than 20 years of leadership and managerial experience in the electric as well as the automotive industries," Esamann, who was promoted to president of Duke’s Midwest and Florida regions and corporate executive vice president, said. "She will be a solid, strong leader for Duke Energy Indiana."
Birmingham-Byrd earned her bachelor’s degree from Purdue University and an MBA from Strayer University. She was the Southern Region vice president for Progress Energy before that company merged with Duke. She served as the senior vice president for Midwest delivery operations the last three years, which saw her managing electric distribution system for Indiana, Ohio and Kentucky.
"Doing what's best for our customers and communities is a priority for me," Birmingham-Byrd said. "I have the advantage of relying on more than 2,500 dedicated Indiana-based employees to help get that done."
