Vattenfall, E.ON sign pact on nuclear plants

Vattenfall Nuclear Energy (VENE) recently signed a long-term cooperation agreement with E.ON to decommission and dismantle joint nuclear power plants.

In 2011, the companies withdrew the operating licenses of four nuclear power plants in Germany. The primary objective of the agreement is to apply the experience from the largely completed dismantling of the E.ON power plant in Stade, Germany, in the planning and implementation of the decommissioning of the VENE power plants.

The transfer of expertise between the two companies has already begun. They will jointly develop and apply concepts such as deconstruction for the dismantling of large components, logistics, waste treatment and disposal. The partners will share and update expertise acquired during the post-operational and dismantling phases of the nuclear plants.

Vattenfall Europe’s Nuclear Energy Head Ingo Neuhaus and ETG Head Karl Ramler emphasized that this agreement optimizes the dismantling process while maintaining the highest safety and environmental standards.
