The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) will hold an open house on May 28 that will cover assessment of the Perry Nuclear Power Plant's performance in 2014.
The power plant is in Perry, Ohio. It is operated by FirstEnergy Nuclear Operating Company.
The NRC found that the plant operated in a safe manner last year with no inspection or performance violations. As a result, the plant will receive standard oversight and will continue to receive routine inspections that all nuclear plants require.
“These open houses give the public a chance to talk informally with our staff about the plant and other NRC-related issues,” NRC Region III Administrator Cynthia D. Pederson said. “It is a great opportunity for people to meet our resident inspectors and other staff; and a great opportunity for us to interact with people who live near the plant."
The event will take place at the Perry Senior Center from 5 to 6:30 p.m. NRC personnel will be available for informal talks about the Perry plant, or to answer questions on related topics and NRC activity.
