Limerick unit returns to full power after refueling

Exelon Corp. reports Unit 2 at its Limerick generating station in near Philadelphia returned to full power Sunday after completing a planned refueling outage that started April 13.

While the unit was offline, technicians replaced nearly one-third of the reactor’s fuel and completed inspections and maintenance designed to keep the unit running safely and effectively for another two years. The majority of this work could not be performed while the unit was online.

An additional 1,500 technical workers help with the work each spring, providing a significant boost to the local economy.
