U.S. Rep. Pete Sessions (R-TX) released a statement on Friday after the House passed the Energy and Water Development and Related Agencies Act, supporting the measure and the amount approved.
The bill provides funding for agencies related to energy and water development.
“Today, the House passed a piece of legislation that ensures nuclear security, prioritizes all-of-the-above energy solutions and keeps waterways open to safeguard our nation’s ability to export,” Sessions, chairman of the House Rules Committee, said. “The funding in this bill will ensure that the U.S. has a safe, secure and reliable nuclear stockpile to prepare for current and future nuclear threats.”
Providing funding for various programs under the Department of Energy, the bill also supports the Army Corps of Engineers, in addition to nuclear weapons security.
“House Republicans have allocated $1.3 billion less than the president’s requested amount for energy programs, while prioritizing funding for all-of-the-above-energy solutions to keep energy costs down and use the resources we have here in the United States,” Sessions said. “The Energy and Water Development and Related Agencies Act provides total funding at $633 million below President Obama’s requested amount to responsibly build infrastructure and defense programs critical to our nation’s economy and safety.”
