U.S. Rep. Candice Miller (MI-10) last month congratulated DTE Energy for getting a license to build a second nuclear energy facility at its plant in Newport, Michigan.
Miller said the additional plant ensures that Michigan residents will continue to receive low-cost, clean energy.
Miller equated energy independence with national security and said domestic energy production is necessary to wean the U.S. off its heavy reliance on foreign fossil fuels.
“Our domestic energy portfolio must be comprehensive and include all forms of energy, and nuclear is an important component of that,” Miller said.
